Jazz 101

by Jesse Lynch Trio

This album was made to compliment our show of the same name, touring in 78 cities between September 2013 and May 2014. The show represents a journey through Jazz and American history over the last (roughly) 101 years. A lot happens in a century. America has gone from the first electric washing machine in 1903 to cloning a sheep in 1997. Jazz has gone from Joplin's Ragtime piano rolls to flapper dresses in Armstrong's and Ellington's swinging dance halls, to breakneck bebop licks from Charlie Parker's horn. On through Coltrane's transfixing tone, through Mingus's perfectly raucous ensemble, through Miles's many visionary transitions. The names are too many. The spirit is forged of the world and the product uniquely American. Thank you family, friends, and everyone that breathes life into music everyday.
